My First Year
I’ve learned to sit and learned to stand,
Grew some teeth and waved my hand.
I’ve been hugged and kissed a million times,
Heard songs and stories and silly rhymes.
I’ve discovered such things as fingers and toes,
And just here lately I’ve heard a few no-nos.
I’m amazed by eyeglasses and love pulling hair,
And lights and windows often catch my stare.
I hate when the sun shines in my beautiful eyes,
But love to go outside and enjoy blue skies.
My walker, my crib, my piano, my swing –
These are a few of my favorite things.
They call me a monkey but haven’t taken me to the zoo,
But I have been on a boat ride and to the beach too.
I’ve had hours of smiles, tickles, and more,
I can’t wait to see what else is in store!
My Daddy’s belly button, my finger fits there,
And that’s almost as fun as pulling his chest hair.
I know to turn the fan on by pulling the string,
I also know how to pull out Mommy’s earrings.
I love sweet potatoes - I think they’re so yummy,
And all kinds of fruits are good for my tummy.
More often than not, my hair stands on end,
But nobody notices when they see my sweet grin.
I’m precious, I’m smart, and cute as can be,
I’m loved by all – especially Mommy and Daddy.
